The above figure is animated preview of laser based cutting machine. There are two stepper motor one is to move the laser in horizontal plane and second is to move it in vertical plane. The circular motion of motor is converted in to linear motion by screw-worm mechanism in which as the motor rotates the plate which is mounted over it's shaft displaced forward or backward. Because the stepper motor rotates for calibrated angle the plate is also displaced for calculated distance. The calibration is done such that if motor rotates for 7.2 degree the plate is displaced for 1 cm. Now because both the motors are of 1.8 deg. Step resolution we need to apply 4 sequential pulses to move the plate 1 cm. To increase or decrease this distance just we have to change no. Of applied pulses so that plate will move to longer/shorter distance
